We got to shoot in some really great locations last Saturday at Sinead and Rory’s wedding. The ceremony took place in Dalkey church with Father Declan Gallagher taking care of proceedings there and then the reception in one of my favourite places to shoot, Druids Glen in Wicklow.
Between the church and hotel, we decided to stop off at Coliemore Harbour and Dillons Park in Dalkey for some shots of the Bride and Groom. Despite being showery and overcast, the clouds gave us a terrific backdrop. You can see some of those pictures in the slideshow below.
When we finished, it was on to Druids Glen and the capable hands of the wedding coordinator Neasa. A true professional, nothing phases her!
After some family shots and some more of Sinead and Rory, it was in for dinner for the guests and another set of super images in the camera for Striking Images.
Hope you like the small selection we have chosen here for the blog.
Oh and here is Sinead with Neasa one of the most professional wedding coordinators in the business.

I start this post with a cautionary tale of stag parties! Poor old Paul went away on his stag party to the UK and one part of the weekend was spent driving military tanks.
That sounds great but for the unfortunate groom, once finished driving the tank, he jumped from the top of it and shattered his kneecap in three places!! Surgery followed with a week in a UK hospital and all this three weeks before the wedding. The consequences were three metal pins inserted in the knee and a wedding day spent transferring from a wheelchair to crutches and back again. That said, all was done in good spirits despite a lot of pain. Poor old Paul!
Geraldine and Paul, despite this (thankfully temporary) injury, had a great day and smiled all the way through it. With the wedding ceremony in Roundwood, Wicklow and the reception in Barberstown Castle, it was a great wedding. With many guests traveling from the UK and further afield, the party started early and once again Barberstown delivered a very special day for the bride and groom. We didn’t get to go to Powerscourt Waterfalls as arranged but I’m going to sort something out for them just as soon as Paul is back on his feet.

Get well soon Paul!

It got to a point were I had just had enough. Icons, Files, PDFs, Folders, Libraries, Numerous Hard Drives – relating to photography, blogging, training, writing, my kids, personal stuff, archives – you name it, it was all over the place!!!
Time to do something about before my head exploded. So I got to thinking…..
……And the solution was simple. ‘Desktop Wallpaper’ designed to screensize the way I wanted it. Then simply set the desktop appearance to point the image I produced. Then simply drag and drop my files, folders PDF’s and everything else into its right location. Suddenly everything was good in my ‘virtual’ world.
This is what I ended up with:

Here’s how I did it on my Mac.
1/ Take a screenshot of your desktop using Cmd-Shift-4 which allow you to select parts of your screen or Cmd-Shift-3 which just takes an image of your entire desktop. This saves a PNG file on your desktop called ‘Screenshot [date] [time] it was taken at.
2/ Open this file in Photoshop and then Cmd-Shift-I to see the exact size of the image.
3/ Create a new image to these dimensions and design it in whatever way you wish – I kind of went for the minimalist look
4/ Using the Marquee Tool in Photoshop (M-Key) and draw as many boxes as you think necessary.
5/ Using the type Tool (T) write your text for the different layers
6/ Position each box and align (Layers->Align) as needed
7 / Position the text into each box (and Align if necessary)
8/ Save the file as a PSD (so you can make alterations and changes as necessary)
9/ Flatten the image
10/ Save the file as a JPEG in (and this is important) the ‘Pictures’ folder. You can find this in in UserPictures in the Finder.
11/ Then open System Preferences in the top left corner under the Apple logo and navigate to “Desktop & Screensaver” in the Personal area.
12/ Select the ‘Pictures’ Folder and select your new tidy picture.
Hey Presto, you have a new backdrop and then simply select individual folders and drop them into their appropriate ‘box’.
Hope this helps.

Its no secret that I am a big fan of the photographer Jerry Ghionis. Operating (normally) out of Melbourne, Australia and Beverly Hills, California, Jerry Ghionis travels frequently on international photography assignments and speaking engagements.

He is widely regarded as one of the top five best wedding photographers in the world and recently won the coveted title of WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) Wedding Album of the Year 2011. He describes his own style as “vintage glamour meets contemporary fashion”. The album that won the prize is the wedding of another renowned photographer Ryan Schembri and his bride Jessica shot on Hamilton Island off the coast of Australia. The album created is a little different from other wedding albums, as it is really created in the form of a magazine style.
Have a look and let me know what you think. You can see the album here at this link.
Also if you want to have a look at his website, here is the link

Lukas from Diga Video Production kindly sent me a little bit of video from a recent wedding I shot for Alan and Linda in the Village at Lyons. Some of the still images are here.
I’m not in it for too much (thankfully) as I spend most of my time behind all cameras but it does give a little flavour of how I work and the relaxed nature of getting the wedding shots.
The Village at Lyons is one of my favourite venues to shoot in as it has so much scope for getting wonderful wedding pictures both outdoors on a fine day and perhaps more importantly, because of Irish weather, indoors too! Anyway, take two minutes and have a look of you get a chance.

Thanks to Lukas for putting this together and thanks to Linda and Alan for being so cool on the day and letting me do my thing. Great day, great couple, great pictures. All this makes for a great wedding album and memories to be shared in the future. Having watched this, I think I’m going to have to get some sort of rig to carry all my cameras! Maybe I need an assistant – it might be time to think about that.
